textbooks
I was reading Miss_Teacher http://middle-school-teacher.blogspot.com/ and she was talking about textbooks. That is so stupid. I read the textbooks and they are BORING! like snooze, pu tme to sleep and I love to read. Even my AP book is the same way. DRY! I hate it and so do my kids. Right Wing Conservatives should have nothing to do with textbooks. Going through SS books you find wrong information, misspellings and pictures that whould not be in the books. They are shoddily pput together and tear up easily. The fact that some of the facts are wrong, just kills me. I love in Texas and I can see the books being geared toward my state and our horrible cirriculum standards. Wow! I did not mean to go off on a tangent.
I’m with you, girl! This next year, I’m going to make the shift toward doing more primary source readings in my class. I find that the kids are so engaged when we do stuff like that. When I did my Black History unit for World History, I was mostly primary sources and the students had so many question. I didn’t have to fight for their attention either. It has been the best part of teaching this year.
